dc.description.abstract | Interview with Professor Patrick MacLeod, conducted by Professor Tilli Tansey, for the History of Modern Biomedicine Research Group, 06 June 2015, in Glasgow. Transcribed by Mrs Debra Gee, and edited by Professor Tilli Tansey. The project management and the technical support were undertaken by Mr Adam Wilkinson and Mr Alan Yabsley, respectively. Professor Patrick MacLeod (b. 1940) is a Clinical Professor of Medical Genetics in the Department of Medical Genetics University of British Columbia and an Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Centre for Biomedical Research, Department of Biology, University of Victoria, in Victoria, British Columbia. He trained in Medicine at the University of British Columbia before going on to train in Paediatrics and Medical Genetics at the Montreal Children’s Hospital under the direction of the late F Clarke Fraser PhD MD OC. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and a Fellow of the Canadian College of Medical Genetics. He has initiated research in various paediatric neurological disorders, contributed to the mapping of the gene for what is now known as spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (Machado Joseph Disease) and the natural history of Rett syndrome in a large cohort of Canadian families. | en_US |
